Atomik Research were commissioned by dating app, Happn, to conduct PR research look into the dating habits of UK adults. The research formed part of a wider Valentine’s campaign for the brand, alongside 4media group, that aimed to promote the app and boost its services around the 14th of February.

The PR research of 2,002 UK adults questioned participants about every aspect of dating, from how long they’ve been single to how long they take to get ready for a date and even how much they spend on a date and what their biggest turn offs are.

Key findings of the PR research included:

  • 63% of single adults are going online to find love
  • The most regular daters were men, with 28% going on dates twice or more a week, compared to just 9% women
  • People spend 21 days on average talking to someone online before meeting them in the flesh
  • Saturday is the most popular night for a date
  • Brits spend around 78 minutes getting ready for a date
  • On average, single Brits spend £70 on a first date
  • Only 28% believed that men should pay the whole bill, compared to 41% of over 25’s
  • The biggest faux-pas in the eyes of women is playing on a phone
  • For Men over drinking is the biggest turn off
  • 70% admitting that they have left a date early
  • 60% who always have an excuse prepared to leave early

The data formed the basis of broadcast and news generation campaigns which together secured 34 pieces of coverage. Highlights included interviews on Sky News, London Live, ITV News, BBC West Midlands, BFBS, TalkRadio, Capital North East, Capital Yorkshire, Jazz FM, and BBC Scotland, as well articles in GQ print and online, MailOnline, Metro, Closer and more!
